damn, I've always wanted a VW bus. Learned how to drive stick in one. I drove through New Mexico, Oklahoma and most of Texas before learning that you don't stop the car by stalling it out. ahem, I was young.
That's funny, I learned how to drive in a VW bus, too! My mother tried to teach me, but after the second lesson (she was easily frustrated), she just handed me the keys and said, "Here. Drive yourself to school, you'll learn." I was 15 at the time, and damned if I didn't.
Of course, I did burn out the clutch one day driving my friends up to the top of Mt. Baldy in heavy wintertime traffic so we could frolic in the snow... but I looked at that as a learning experience.

Those old VW buses had cachet, Donna. My buddy had one, growing up. And I still get an echo of the hippie off the new ones.
