lovely, lovely shot! really looks like it needs to be a painting. I used to paint flying coffee cups. might be time to do more.

It's so funny you'd say that, Donna -- Mary saw me posting this one and demanded a print to paint it from.

Glad you liked it!

Hey, Donna, dig in! Do you need a print or can you work from your computer (Mary can't)?

God, European coffee is sooo good. (It's half the fun of being there, G. I know Tom drinks coffee -- Peet's, right?) Coffee's different all over Europe, and they make all kinds of variations of it in the south. That's a cafe noisette (sp? I prefer the Italian name for it: cafe macchiato) and a cafe creme (which may or may not be identical to a cafe au lait) in the photo.

I have to slightly amend my comment -- I almost never drink coffee. I absolutely love the smell of it, but I just don't like the taste. And caffeine does not affect me at all. (There have been times when I wish it had, but I can fall asleep anywhere, any time.)

However, when we were in Europe, I was so taken with the after-dinner ritual of espresso and sugar that I observed, I ordered it a couple times while in Italy. Each time, it was fun getting the tiny cup and stirring in the sugar cube and inhaling the intoxicating aroma -- and then not so much fun taking a sip and remembering why I never drink the stuff.

Aside from all that, great picture, and I'd love to see the paintings that come from it.

Hey Ahab, I should be able to work from the computer. I'll start with a sketch and go from there. If you've seen my paintings, you know that I go in for a fairly Fauvist take on reality.

and Generik, you put sugar in espresso...orrori!
