Black and White and Color and Ansel Adams

Since we often talk here about the relative merits of the color and black-and-white versions of a photo, I thought this would be interesting to y'all: Smithsonian magazine has an article about Ansel Adams and color photography. He was mostly dismissive of it, but not entirely unconflicted (especially when he got lucrative commissions to shoot in color), and the article is illustrated with some gorgeous examples of his work in color.

Oh, I though the piece would be longer. Very interesting nonetheless. Fascinating guy. I'm seriously intrigued with great B/W photos these days. And great color ones.

And I love that "See Your West" campaign. Pure "Mad Men." Tom, maybe you should adopt that name for Sunday Sierra Blogging.

Ahab, Sunday Sierrablogging is an institution--I'm not sure I can change the name now. But See Your West would be a great feature here, and not limited to the Sierra...

Thanks for the idea!
