Cherry Blossoms

Cherry Blossoms

I can't decide which one I prefer, so I've included an alternate take beneath the fold:

Lovely--great colors. I vote for the alternate take, I think.

With the composition, movement, story line and colors, my vote is for a diptych!

Having just seen these on your Flickr page and experiencing the same dilemma, I vote for the second one as well. I like the positioning of the umbrellas in that one a little better.

But Donna's idea is good, too!

Thanks, and thanks for the feedback. I agree that the second one's best. Mary liked the first one strongly, so I went with it. She liked the energy of the guy's stance, plus she's heavily into Bonnard, who leaves empty spaces in the center of his canvases. There's a word for that, which I forget. Obviously I am no Bonnard.

I cropped these down about 50% before posting. Maybe if I'd left more space in #1, the Bonnard effect would have worked. The figures are too close right now, and too symmetrically dominant.

M.Kate, you must be somewhere with too harsh or not harsh enough winters. These are in Washington, DC, where I happened to be at the right time for the second year in a row. It rained like hell for an hour before I got these shots, nicely clearing out most of the people. It was perfect timing, and just a gorgeous scene.

Ahh, Malaysia -- not enough winter!
