Trumpeter Swans

Trumpeter Swans E30 & 038, Alternate Take
Endangered Species, currently resident in Northeastern PA

There's an alternate take of this shot here. I can't decide which one I prefer. Can I have the right bird here and the left bird there?

Both great shots. You used a telephoto lens for this, yes?

Thanks, G. And, yes, I used a telephoto zoom lens at 300mm, which has an effective focal length on my camera of 450mm. Telephotos are my least favorite (and least useful) lenses, so I wasn't going to add one to my kit this time. But I decided these swans alone were worth the expense. And now I'm psyched about trying to capture more birds and wildlife.

I got these shots within 90 minutes of UPS delivering the lens. Rarely do the stars align so perfectly for me. But how do I now refuse myself any photo accessory that I "could use"?

Oh, you might be interested to know that the darkness behind the swans is the shadow under a dock. It was an effect I noted when I shot the swans last month with my point-and-shoot. I can't tell you how satisfying this shoot was. What a great hobby, photography.
