In My Neighborhood: Finest Nails and a Diet Coke

Finest Nails and a Diet Coke

Shot on film with the trusty old Pentax K1000 one Saturday morning a few weeks back. This is Polk Street looking south from Hemlock Alley; almost right outside my window.

Ride Along Program

Something about seeing this just amused me no end.

Coffee Stop

Coffee Stop

Who wouldn't want a nice place to sit in the shade to sip a morning coffee and watch the world go by on a lovely Shadow Shot Sunday morning? Scoot over, some of these folks want to join you.

On the F-Line

"I'm On the F-Line, Heading Up Market Street."

A hipshot (I place my camera in my lap, aim it in the general direction I want to shoot, and surreptitiously press the shutter) produces some decent results in a recent ride in one of the vintage streetcars that run up and down Market Street. I was very happy with the light in this one.

The Cover Up

The Cover Up

A woman covering up graffiti casts a long shadow on the wall -- which reminds me, hey, long time no Shadow Shot Sunday! I wonder if any of these fine participants missed me.

Hat & Tie Again

Hat and Tie Again

A revisited picture from an Ale & Quail Club walk back in September. The original was in color, and when I showed a print of it at a recent photographers' critique forum, it was suggested that I try it in black and white. This is the result.

The Photographer's Shadow

Photographers Shadow
Went on a photowalk last night with the Friday Night Drinking & Shooting Club, and caught this shadow of a photographer preparing his shot.

Shadow Shot Sunday: it's less filling, and it tastes great.

This is the picture that captured the Gold last night. There were a lot of good entries, and I feel very lucky to have come out on top.

The Olympics of People Watching: Barefoot in the Alley

Barefoot in the Alley

Tonight is the reception and closing night for a photo contest here in SF called The Olympics of People Watching. I was lucky enough to be chosen one of the seven finalists, and tonight the public is invited to come and view all the submissions and vote for Bronze, Silver and Gold Medalists. Above is one of the ten photos I submitted to qualify as a finalist; there will be five more photos (all shot on film last Saturday morning in various sites around the city) on display for voting consideration as well.

To see all ten of the photos I submitted initially (some of which have been posted on this site), go here. After tonight, I will also put the five photos from last Saturday in that same set.

Wish me luck!

Conservatory 32
After two weeks off for holidays (and laziness), I'm back on the Shadow Shot Sunday beat with this one from the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park.

Lombard Street, New Year's Eve

Lombard Street, New Year's Eve

One more long exposure from the last day of 2010. This was shot from the roof of a friend's apartment building in North Beach. The zig-zag of Lombard Street is lit up by cars making their way down what's called "The Crookedest Street in the World" (it really isn't, but it still gets a lot of publicity and tourist visits).
