Praying Mantis

Praying Mantis

So on the other side of the Flickr coin, here's one that a lot of people seem to like.

It's an excellent capture of a cool mural. But it's a funny thing...my second-most popular pic on Flickr is a shot of a cool mural, which, fine with me and all, except that I feel like the coolness of the shot isn't really mine at all--it comes from the artist. And while it does take some doing to get a good-looking capture of a work of visual art, it's odd to me that that pic in particular, and mural pics in general, would be so popular. I don't know if you're thinking along the same lines; that's just my own reaction.

Interesting that you bring it up, because that's pretty much how I feel as well. I'm glad that people like my mural shots, but I also feel like it's sort of cheating -- it's not really MY art, it's a shot of someone else's art. The painter is the one with the talent, the one who did the heavy lifting. I just snapped an image of it. I mean, I don't think it's a bad shot or anything, I like it enough to post here, obviously, but it's not the same to me as taking a picture of a person or finding an angle on a building or a reflection in a puddle or whatever.

So yeah, I think we're of like minds on this.

Sounds like it.

By the way, your comment reminded me that I was feeling bad about not having tagged my art truck pictures with the name of the artist (which, for a change, I happen to know)...so I went back and tagged them (Noah Ptolemy is the artist).
