I've never understood how those big round things can fly with the wings they have. Aren't they structurally unsound?

Great shot, though!

The more I look at this, the more I like it. The sharpness and clarity of the bee and the petals, the light on the flowers, the grid of the window in the shadow... this really works very well. Did you use the macro for this, or just the regular setting?

Oh, thanks! Glad you guys liked this one.

Generik, I'm with you -- these things are uncanny flyers. They don't steer so much as they zoom wildly around toward stimulation. They're a lot like men! [Channeling Mary there.]

The background is a lattice screen I built years ago up near one side of my property line. It was never much of a success until I took this shot.

I took this with the telephoto zoom. (I'm ceding macro to Tom -- he's earned it.) I never used to like telephoto lenses, but now I use this one all the time. It's the lazy man's lens.

I had a funny feeling this might be a telephoto shot. Thanks for the confirmation.

See, you should go with what works for you!

Mrs. Generik just spent a few good long minutes gazing at this and giving it huge props. Serious, major props. She wishes we had this shot on the flower wall in our bathroom to join the other flower and bug pictures (OMG, don't ask, it's a fucking scary garden up there on that wall).

I'd be glad (honored) to send it to you if you guys want to print it up, Generik. Or I can make you a 4x6" print.

Ahab, can I have this as a late addition to the spring Pixels show?

Generik said...

Mrs. G and I would be honored to get a print of that, ahab! We would most definitely put it up in a place where it would fit in wonderfully.

Thanks!

Donna, I sent you the file. Generik, I'll get you a print for your place of honor. ;)
