B2B
The Bay to Breakers was Sunday, and since it runs right through my neighborhood, I thought I'd check it out. It's always been as much a fiesta as a footrace, with lots of people running in costume (or no costume at all). Photos below the fold...

looks like a lot of fun! I wonder what the band of blondes was all about.
They're all Dolly Parton, who is a serious icon in San Francisco.
Hey, I thought you hate crowds? Or is it true and everybody loves a parade?
Nice shots.
Very nice!
I was up on Hayes Street hill (which is earlier in the race than Tom's spot at GG Park), and stood my ground in the intersection of Hayes & Steiner through the entire crowd of 62,000 people. I took a few pictures myself, if anyone's interested.
I posted this before I saw you had B2B pics too. Yours are excellent--you're much better at this sort of thing than I am.
And Ahab, I do hate crowds. That just shows what I'm willing to go through for my photos. ;-)
Oh, now, it's not a competiton!
(Well, the race was -- sort of -- but our photography isn't.)
Still, thanks!
Dolly Parton is an icon? Wow, OK...
Dolly Parton is right up there with Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland in terms of San Francisco icon-ness.
Mary (who doesn't read my blogs) pointed out to me out of the blue yesterday that she has run this race. She spent a few several-month stints in SF with an aunt back in college days. She says it was pretty brave of a young girl from the provinces to run that race all by herself.
She's got no photos, though.
