One of many fissures in the marble karst landscape of Marble Valley in Marble Mountain Wilderness (are you sensing a pattern there?). Somewhere around here is the discovery entrance to Bigfoot Cave, one of the deepest caves in the U.S.
I don't know what Irene did to these Maine woods but it was pretty brutal here in my neck of the woods. We just now got electrical power restored, after more than two full days without. The storm itself was massive. It took about 18 hours to pass over, with at least a dozen of those hours filled with deafening, howling, roaring, unrelenting winds and rain. Trees were coming down all over our neighborhood but almost miraculously these trees in my neighbor's yard and several like them (in age, size and aesthetic significance) on my own property made it through okay. Our Prairiefire and hawthorn trees made it okay too.
The Behemoth, painting #21 in my friend Denny Holland's contribution to the 50/50 show at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica. "50/50" refers to 50 works in 50 days, all on a theme chosen by the artist, each 6" x 6", displayed in the show as a 7 x 7 grid with the 50th piece off to the side. There are 70-some artists participating, and a whole lot of great stuff, so if you find yourself in the vicinity check it out.
Another one from the ballpark. This is the huge condo tower known as Rincon One (aka The Sharper Image air purifier building) in the creeping fog of a Friday evening.
Here's another shot of Sky High Valley in the Marble Mountain Wilderness. It's not the same shot as this one, but it's similar enough (and taken just a minute earlier) to serve as a color version of the same landscape.
Here's another take. In the one I posted yesterday he was eating. Adults may be grander but I find these youngster eagles more visually interesting. Large take here.
Saw this guy Saturday on Polk Street and couldn't help but follow him and ask for a portrait. Thankfully he was an obliging sort. He also played some pretty good slide blues.
Yesterday (8/17), Mrs. G and I celebrated our 26th anniversary. This is the spot where we got married, on a sunny August afternoon under these trees. Whenever we're in town for our anniversary, we try to make a visit to the Palace of Fine Arts at some point in the day or evening just to revisit that occasion.
I know I already posted once today, but I forgot that I had wanted to start a new blog meme, "Whiskey Wednesdays." And I hate to delete an entry I already put up, so...
Bartender, a double for the house!
Sorry, guys, I'll take a couple days off to let everyone catch up. In the mean time, have one (or two) on me.
