City Impressions

City Impressions

It rained here last Saturday. It really, really rained. Here's what it looked like down on Mission Street as I was sitting in my car hoping it would let up long enough for me to carry some photos from the car to the Mission Cultural Center.

More playing around with the borrowed camera (& lenses); this one is from Hawk Hill in the Marin Headlands.

Edit: And as it turns out, this is the 1,000th post at Pixels at an Exhibition.

We posted something similar a couple of years ago, here.

Vista Point

Borrowed a DSLR and some lenses from my brother, and I'm trying them out...

The lobby to the SF MOMA is cast in deep shadow and bright sunlight on a recent Saturday afternoon. Just in time for Shadow Shot Sunday, as I'm sure all these fine folk would agree.

In My Neighborhood: De Soto

De Soto 01
You know how when you see a spectacularly beautiful vintage automobile, you always say "that's MY car!"?

Or is it just me who does that?

Anyway, this baby is rightfully MINE. Another shot below the fold; both of them were a lotta nuthin in color, but I like how they turned out in black and white.

Common Ravens
This shot is much better large. I probably could have cropped it a bit tighter, but I wanted to portray a sense of space.

Two from MOMA

When Up is Down

In and Out the Window

I spent part of Saturday afternoon checking out the Henri Cartier-Bresson exhibit at MOMA, and was lucky enough to get these shots in the stairwell. I like them both quite a bit.

Shadow Shot Sunday

Trophy Shadow
Caught this trophy shadow late one afternoon in an office at my firm. Check out some of the other Shadow Shot Sunday participants here.

And while you're here, check out our 2nd anniversary retrospective, a roundup of favorite shots from the past year.

Blogiversary Retrospective II: The Sequel

Opening Night #5
And the Rockets' Red Glare by Generik, posted on April 14.

Today (yesterday actually, but who's counting) is the two-year anniversary of Pixels at an Exhibition, and we're continuing the annual tradition of posting a set of favorite images (from each of us, selected by the other two co-bloggers) from the past year. I'll let the images speak for themselves, and add only that it is a great pleasure and privilege to be able to share this space with Michael and Erik--really talented photographers, and all-around good people.

Band's End
Went to Land's End for the sunset last Sunday, and these guys were practicing (or performing--who knows?). Elsewhere, someone was giving tango lessons.

Another one from the Friday Night Drinking & Shooting Club photowalk, this time featuring photographers risking their lives to get a shot. Woohoo!

Hitting on the Moonshine, Rockin' in the Grain

Rockin' in the Grain

Another one with the camera on loan, shot at ISO 6400 (!!), which is why it's so grainy and noisy. Still, kind of cool, I think. Tonight will be a real test of this camera; it's the Friday Night Drinking and Shooting Club's November get-together, starting out at the world-famous Tonga Room! Drinks with umbrellas! A fake rainstorm over the indoor pool every hour! Sweet and sour meatballs! Tikis!!

Bokeh of Stems

Bokeh of Stems

My department went to Napa last week to do a little wine-tasting (ostensibly for "team-building," though I think it was really just an excuse for us all to get out of work for a day and catch a little buzz). Naturally, I took a few pictures on the trip. I think this one is probably my favorite.

Orange You Glad the Giants Won?
The Ferry Building, lit up for the World Series winners. (As noted, not nearly as good as Generik's shot of City Hall...but then Generik didn't have a terrible pun for a title.)
