I'd been shooting him intermittently for days in cold light but we finally got a partly sunny afternoon with stunning light coming between and being amplified by clouds. Meanwhile the mountain (hill, really) across the lake remained in shadow, that's the blue/gray background. It was one of those moments when you know it's all coming together for you.
I got other terrific takes before and after this, several of them with him pounding crabapples like nobody's business. I think he may have been buzzed off some partially fermented ones. He was rampaging!

Lovely.
Thanks! He's got a mate now. With a tree like that in his territory it was never going to take long.
Beautiful color, really like the DOF.
Thanks!
