BRIII-D: This Time It's Personal I Remembered to Take Off the Lens Cap

November 18 was the third anniversary of Pixels at an Exhibition. We're a little late in celebrating it, because close to 50% of our team was on vacation in various places until early December...but now, belatedly, here it is: a collection of our favorite photos from the preceding year, chosen by each of us from the work of the other three. Enjoy.

Feliz Navidad

I Want to Wish You a Merry Christmas

Shot up close with the Sigma 10-20mm. My regular 24-105mm lens decided to lock up on me at the last stop of my vacation (it wanted to be a 70-105mm, apparently -- at least it waited until the trip was almost at an end before becoming so obstinate), so it's out for servicing. In the meantime, I'm shooting with either the wide angle or the 50mm prime. This one... man, I can't believe how close I had to get to shoot this. Waaaaay too close.

I wanna wish you a merry Christmas, from the bottom of my heart!

Seriously, the Czech Republic needs to buy a damn vowel. Maybe they should contact the Netherlands; they could certainly spare a few.

I'm baaaack! D'ja miss me?

All told, it was a super vacation, with this last portion being perhaps the best road trip Mrs. G and I have ever taken (and we've taken some good ones). Just very relaxing and enjoyable, with beautiful sights and scenery the whole way.

This is from our hotel room in Seaside, Oregon, where we had a lovely room with an ocean view and a fireplace. Even the record-setting rain there couldn't dampen our spirits.

Anyway, it was a great trip, but it's sure good to be home.

Parliament on the Danube

Home just long enough to unpack, do a ton of laundry, run some errands and repack (also download a few pictures, of course). Phase 3 begins tomorrow... Meanwhile, here's a shot of the Hungarian Parliament building in Budapest, the largest Parliament in Europe.

Right now I am so tired and having so much fun, I can hardly stand it.

Justin's Skate Park, Slab City, CA

Justin and His Skate Park

I'm home for a brief respite between legs 1 and 2 of the sabbatical (I fly out of SFO Friday morning). So far, it's been a blast. I have lots of stories to tell and hundreds of photos to work through and process. Later.

This is Justin, a resident of Slab City, near the small town of Niland and the Salton Sea. He's built a skate park there, "for everyone." Including the Salvation Mountain site, Slab City is an amazing spot that not many people get to see up close.

BTW -- great stuff you guys have been posting in my absence! I looked a few times while on the road, and thought, man, I'd sure like to share a blog with those guys!
