On the Beach

On the Beach

Seriously, doesn't this look like it could be what's left after the nuclear holocaust? Or just a normal day at the Salton Sea Beach Marina. Same difference.

Yreka Fire Department

Yreka Fire Dept.

We got to Yreka just in time to catch the Xmas parade with our good friend Dennis last December. I got a shot or two.

Saloon Door

Saloon Door

After the Gold Dust (say, isn't that a Neil Young song?), we made our way up through Chinatown and into North Beach, where we stopped for more liquid refreshment at one of the oldest bars in SF. The Saloon celebrated their 150th anniversary last October, and it's still going strong. Just like the drinks they serve.

Last Call

Gold Dust 01
The Gold Dust Lounge, which won't be around much longer unless the court intervenes. I met Erik and Bill there for an afternoon of drinking, shooting, and talking about how we need to get Ahab out to San Francisco.

Not Sure What They're Seeing

Not Sure What They're Looking At

Another one from the Chinese New Year parade.

Dark City

Waterfront 01 black
More fun with altered images: I took a cityscape I had posted earlier and raised the black threshhold to obliterate everything but the brightest highlights.

Etna Summit Snapshot

Etna Summit Snapshot
I didn't bother uploading this one when I first shot it, because the blown-out highlights kind of ruined it. But I ran across it again the other day while I was fooling around with SageLight, so I altered the colors a little to make it look like a faded crappy snapshot from 40 or 50 years ago. Definitely like it better this way.

Hooded Mergansers

Hooded Mergansers
This shot is from last winter. This year's weather is so mild we haven't had much lake ice -- or many wintering birds.

Breeze Lake

Breeze Lake 01
I was kind of meh about this one in color (overcast sky and all), but I like the way it looks in black & white. This is Breeze Lake, near the southeast boundary of Yosemite National Park.

Matthias Reflected

There's something about this shot that I find both very cool and very disconcerting. Your mileage may vary.
