Great color. Looks like a classic joint.

Thanks! Yeah, ahab, it's sort of a San Francisco classic...one of the other Mel's (no longer there, but same style) was used as a location in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and American Graffiti.

Love old diners like this. Nice pic, Tom.

Now that I think about it, I may have eaten at one of these Mel's drive ins. It's all hazy now. Which goes to show how overdue I am for a trip to SF.

You know what, I think it was this one. They have lunch specials, Blue Plate Specials, something like that, and huge portions. I've eaten there a few times. It wasn't too far from Mary's aunt's apartment, which is near SFMOMA.

Damned if I can place the location exactly, though, which I usually can do. I'm thinking a bit east or south of the aunt's place.

Maybe you're thinking of the one on Van Ness and Geary, ahab. It's right across the street from Tommy's Joynt -- and if I can make a recommendation, you're better off at Tommy's.

IMHO, of course. Your mileage may vary.
