Geometry + Algebra
The underside of a metal catwalk on a late afternoon makes a calculated addition to the Shadow Shot Sunday oeuvre. Multiply that by this division of talented photographers and you can sum up the total experience nicely.

In My Neighborhood: Lottery Scratcher
A bit of serendipity with this one, as the stripes on the bus shelter echo the California Lottery logo. In fact, this is probably the first shot I've taken with those stripes that I like (and I've taken a lot).

Garage Mural
A garage painted by local muralist Amanda Lynn (not a guitar or a banjo) enjoys some leafy shade in the middle of a summer day. Must be Shadow Shot Sunday, for me, for Amanda Lynn and for all these talented people around the world.

Shadow Shot Sunday
If anyone wondered where I was last Sunday (i.e., Saturday), I was here--Lower Chain Lake, in Yosemite National Park.
Learn about Shadow Shot Sunday, and then join in the fun.

A view from the Schoodic Peninsula side of Acadia National Park.
(I'll have my camera back Monday or Tuesday. Yay! I made such a stink they rushed it.)

If You Love a Sofa, Set it Free
People who follow my photostream on Flickr know that I'm obsessed with couches in outdoor settings, whether they be abandoned on an urban sidewalk, tossed away in a back alley or set up in an empty field somewhere miles from anything. I ran across this beauty being carried from a garage sale to a new home a couple blocks away last weekend in the Haight, and took a few shots of it on the move. I really like this particular one, what with the light, the framing of the tree on the right and the couple pausing for a break.
Your mileage may vary, of course.

Let Us Now Praise Tom Hilton
Apropos of not much, here is the man behind the blog. If it weren't for him, none of this would be possible. I caught this candid shot on last Friday's photowalk, and Tom himself said that he doesn't hate it.
High praise indeed.
Thanks for the Exhibition at which we show off our Pixels, my friend.

Shadow Shot Sunday
From my road trip up to the northern Sierra last weekend, this is Pink Owl's Clover (Orthocarpus cuspidatus) along the Sagehen Creek trail, Tahoe National Forest.
Read the Shadow Shot Sunday rules, and then participate. If, y'know, you want to.

Blue and Wonder
My title is the title of a Richard Buckner song. I was on my way to see him the day I took this, FWIW. Mary objects to the wires, but I think they're kind of wonderful.
I'm currently without my good camera, which I broke and had to send to Nikon for repair. You know the birds are going to go nuts on me while it's away, right?
And while I'm raving with heatstroke, I'll point out to our audience, including that E6 guy who I see has been around, that Flickr has upgraded its photo viewer. Go to a photo's page and click on the photo again, and a magnificent, full-screen lightbox viewer will open. You can then scroll through a whole set of photos. It's pretty great.

In My Neighborhood: Outside Looking In
I didn't notice the reflection of the guy looking back out when I took this shot, but when I discovered it in processing, I realized it totally makes the picture.

Bass Line Painting
A musician plays the stand-up bass while a painter creates a work on the wall next to him. It's Shadow Shot Sunday performance art! I'll bet most of these people would approve.

In my Neighborhood: Traveling in Style
And what could be more stylish than a vintage Cadillac pulling an Airstream?
Speaking of which, I'm off at the cracko tomorrow (no Shadow Shot Sunday for me, alas) for a wildflower-chasing roadtrip around the northern Sierra. Y'all behave yourselves in my absence, and have a great holiday weekend!

Above Yosemite
Here's another shot from my flight back from Boston last month. We flew over Yosemite around the latitude of the Tioga Pass Road, and the folks on the left side of the plane probably got a great view of the Valley while we on the right...didn't. But somewhere near the western boundary of the park, the pilot turned sharply south and then turned north again, so we on the right side got this view straight up the Valley (and Tenaya Canyon). That's El Capitan in the foreground, and of course Half Dome near the center.
