Thanks. This was one of my lost shots on the damaged HDD. I played out the data recovery firm for all I was worth and got them down to $600 (from $1600) to recover 90+% of the missing 2300 files. A sick fee but nearly worth it for the closure of knowing just what shots were missing. Got some goodies back too, like a Great Horned Owl, Cooper Hawk, Merlin closeups and a good number of other nice shots. Learned a severe lesson though. Don't be a cheap, lazy idiot with data.

These blackbirds are the yellow-winged variety. They roost winter nights in the tens of thousands in the island of green reeds you can see part of there at bottom of the shot, way down near Mexico in the Sonoran desert. It's an amazing thing to be there at dusk as they come in over and around you in huge, aerodynamic clouds. You can see and then hear them coming in from miles away from all points of the compass in great, flowing blotches. Quite a spectacle indeed.

So cool! Are you thinking of printing this? After the money you spent, I would think you should do more than just share on the internetz. And this is fabulous.

Thanks, G. I will print some of the recovered stuff, just for the point of it! It would have been nice to finance prints rather than data recovery with that $600 (or to buy a lens or anything more tangible), but that's water under the bridge at this point. Chalk it up to lessons learned.

This is perfect. I love the movement.

Also, if you start shooting film you don't have to worry about hard-drive failure!
