For this I used the "Polarizing Filter" feature in my image processing software, which I'm enjoying probably a whole lot more than I should. I don't generally like over-processed images, but sometimes the results are just too entertaining for me to resist.

That color really pops! It is a bit over the top, but still, I like it.

Thanks! Over the top is right; I think what redeems it is that, as ahab says, the color palette is reminiscent of antique postcards. So it comes off as garishly evocative, instead of merely garish. ;-)
By the way, the black & white is a direct translation from the polarized image. That's the main thing I use the polarizing filter for: I can get more vibrant b&w images, and I can tinker with the light balance (by moving the filter around the color spectrum).
