Yes, same bird, same day. He dove and hunted several times as I watched him, coming up further and further away. Then he took a short nap. Hilarious. He uses himself as a down pillow. It has been an off year, waterfowl-wise, because of the strangely mild weather.
I photographed a pileated woodpecker out back in the woods yesterday, though, and I got documentary but not postable shots of my first-ever yellow-bellied sapsucker. Yes, that's a real bird.
