Shadow Shot Sunday: Fishnets on the Ceiling

Fishnets & Shadow

A pair of inflatable fishnet-clad legs cast a long shadow on the ceiling of a local pub. Grab a pint and celebrate Shadow Shot Sunday! Cheers to last week's shadow shooters!

Transbay Colors 01
Fremont St. under the soon-to-be-demolished Transbay Terminal. They did the colored-light thing last year around Pride Day; I suppose they're doing it again now to give the old joint a fitting sendoff.

Red Hat

Red Hat

Something about that hat made me feel like I just had to capture this young woman and her boyfriend as they sat talking in Union Square Saturday. Plus, they're such a cute couple anyway that it would probably be hard to take a bad picture of them.

Mrs. G doesn't care for the pole immediately to their left (and I actually did crop out quite a bit of the planter and other stuff on that side of the picture), but I like it. Your mileage may vary.

Saguaro Forest

Saguaro Forest
For the first time in two years, I'm back down here in fascinating Tucson. (This shot is from the trip two years ago.) There was a blizzard here in the higher elevations the day before we arrived. The mountains are all white and there's water running in all the stream beds. The desert seems thrilled with the abundance. Of course, if it melts too fast there will be hell to pay. But the wildflowers should be great this spring. Tom, take note.

Shadow Shot Sunday: Cloud Storage

Cloud Storage

Something a little different for this week's Shadow Shot Sunday...

A stormy sunset puts San Francisco in shadow as twilight wanes, lights go on and people head home from work or out to dinner. To see some of last week's SSS entries, find your way through the shadows to this spot.

Shadow Shot Sunday: it's nutritious and delicious.

Sally Field Moment

Each week, on Friday, the good folk over at CALIBER post a photo from a contributor to their Flickr pool to share with their considerable audience. This week, I was lucky enough to be chosen for their spotlight with this image, long a favorite of mine. I'm so flattered! Go check it out, and maybe leave a comment if you feel the urge.

Also, for those of you here in the Bay Area, scroll down the CALIBER site and take a look at the post about the upcoming photowalk on Saturday, January 30th. Starting at the Montgomery Street BART/MUNI station at about 12:30, the CALIBER gang will lead a group of photographers through Chinatown and North Beach, snapping shots all along the way. Pizza and beer will be consumed at a yet to be determined place at the end of the walk. I participated in the Halloween photowalk and it was a ton of fun. I look forward to joining the group again in a week.

Shadow Shot Sunday: Prismatic

Prismatic

Late afternoon sun shines through my friend Bill's cut-glass front door at his house in Hesperia, creating all sorts of light and shadow play. Shadow Shot Sunday is played by these rules; here are some of last week's players.

Just Married

Just Married

With the Prop. 8 trial going full steam ahead here in California right now, it seems like a good time to post this image. This was taken at the SF Pride parade in 2008, right after this couple had been married at City Hall.

Shadow Shot Sunday

Chairs and Shadows BW
I wouldn't consider the Embarcadero complex an aesthetic triumph, but it does seem to be a great source of interesting shadows. This was shot on the promenade level of Embarcadero One; previous SSS shots from the Embarcadero complex are here, here, here, here, and here.

Shadow Shot Sunday is tons of fun--check it out!
